Yesterday, former President Joe Biden announced his new book will be hitting shelves this November - just two weeks after the midterms. He originally let slip a September release during an awkward moment earlier this year (see the video above).

It’s still four months out, but history tells us what’s coming: the grievance-filled book tours of Kamala Harris and Karine Jean-Pierre fed the conservative news cycle for weeks. Expect a sequel.

I wrote recently how figures like Kamala Harris and Jon Ossoff fail the “Joe Rogan test.” Today, one of the test’s highest scorers, Vice President J.D. Vance, is in Austin recording his second appearance on the show.

While Vance handled traditional book tour stops like FOX News and The View with ease, his new media blitz is what truly stood out. His recent circuit included The Diary of A CEO, Megyn Kelly, Allie Beth Stuckey, Michael Knowles, Mike Rowe, Ross Douthat, and Sean Hannity’s new show.

This is familiar territory for Vance, who leaned heavily into podcasts during the 2024 campaign. One of the more memorable and head-scratching moments was when Theo Von asked Vance whether 19th-century abolitionist Frederick Douglass was gay. Vance laughed off the absurdity of the comment and handled it perfectly, proving exactly why he thrives in the format. - NRB

I received several texts about Wednesday’s Brand Brief asking me to elaborate on this line:

Candace Owens might not host a conservative show, but unfortunately, she still draws conservative listeners.

This is legacy media’s greatest misunderstanding of conservative media: the difference between conservative shows and shows that conservatives listen to.

Hosts like Ben Shapiro, Megyn Kelly, Dan Bongino, and Allie Beth Stuckey run inherently conservative programs. They don’t always agree, but their framework and worldviews are right-of-center.

Conversely, shows hosted by Joe Rogan, Theo Von, and Tim Dillon are not conservative programs. While their distrust of institutions occasionally aligns them with the right, they are better understood as “unorthodox generalists” (more on this later). Yet, they command large conservative audiences. - NRB

This week’s target: The Odyssey.

The film’s pre-release media tour is already drawing conservative media eye-rolls. First, transgender actor Ellen (Elliot) Page was cast in a male role. Second, actress Lupita Nyong’o told the media that Homer’s 3,000-year-old epic poem fails to capture a woman’s perspective.

Hollywood backlash is not universal. Project Hail Mary, based on the Andy Weir novel, earned praise from conservatives simply for not being “woke” (the bar is low) and incorporating subtle Christian themes.

This is not new on the right: I grew up in a house that had our cinema experience largely shaped by conservative talk radio host Michael Medved’s weekly movie reviews. - NRB

53% of No Apologies Right say they like it when politicians they agree with humiliate opponents. Far smaller shares of Faith First Conservatives (27%) and Unconventional Right (28%) say this. Pragmatic and Polite Right overwhelmingly reject this style of politics – just 5% say they like seeing political opponents humiliated.

For example, conservative voices like Ben Shapiro and Allie Beth Stuckey take a fundamentally different approach than firebrands like Jack Posobiec or Jesse Kelly.
