The left-leaning media newsletter Status reports that legacy outlets like The New York Times and CNN are tapping into the creator economy. CNN is already conducting workshops with digital creators and recently experimented with podcast aesthetics during primetime shows last week.
The right is already there: Conservative new media is natively creator-first. Ben Shapiro (Daily Wire) and Megyn Kelly (MK Media) built empires around personalities, FOX News found success with the podcast-style TV program, The Will Cain Show. Even Sean Hannity expanded his footprint into the space.
The bottom line: To survive, legacy media should learn from the right’s ability to balance personality-driven connections with news authority. - NRB
