A deeper look at The Pew Research Center’s political typology reveals a stark religious divide between the American left and right. Two data points stand out:
Christian Culture: Roughly 80% of right-leaning groups say it’s extremely/very/somewhat important for the U.S. to have a culture based in Christian beliefs, compared to just 23% on the left.
Religious Identity: The staunchest members of the left’s coalition are overwhelmingly secular, backing up this divide (see the graph above).
